Springbok Rug Information

The Springbok is a graceful and beautifully marked antelope from the gazelle family. It roams the open plains of Southern Africa and is celebrated as the national animal of South Africa. Known for both its speed and elegance, the Springbok holds deep cultural importance across the region.

For generations, the Karoo people have depended on Springbok not just for food but also for materials. Today, Springbok hides are crafted into unique rugs that reflect the natural patterns and tones of the animal. No two are exactly alike, which adds character and charm to every piece.

These rugs bring warmth and personality into homes, blending natural texture with timeless style.

Care Instructions

To care for your Springbok rug, use a vacuum with a soft bristle brush attachment. Gently vacuum in the direction of the hair grain, never against it. This helps keep the hide smooth and intact.

You can also shake the rug outside now and then to remove surface dust and dirt. If there’s a spill, lightly dampen a cloth with water and mild soap. Wipe gently along the hair grain. Don’t soak the rug, as too much moisture can damage it.

After cleaning, use a clean, damp cloth to remove any soap. Prop up the affected area to let it dry fully. At Hanlin, we advise against machine or dry cleaning, as these natural hides require gentle care to preserve their quality.
